Girl Scout volunteers received the GSUSA Volunteer of Excellence Award
Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons recognized Tifanie Petro of Rapid City and Shannon Powell of Summerset with the Girl Scouts USA Volunteer Excellence Award.
Petro has worn many hats within the organization and says enjoys watching the girls become community focused and developing leadership skills.
Tifanie Petro serves as the Rushmore Service Unit Recruiter & Troop Co-Leader, she says, “They [the girls] are identifying, they are problem solving out in our community and it is just amazing connection between self and community.”
Powell is noted for her volunteer excellence and Girl Scout advocacy and educating the future generation. She is always willing to take on a challenge head on.
Shannon Powell serves as the Foothills Service Unit Manager & Troop Leader and says she enjoys being a role model for the girls, “They look up to the adults, it really just helps them feel like they can be a leader and be risk takers. You are making an impact, and you are being that role model that some of these girls may not have.”
The recipients were nominated by fellow volunteers or staff and approved by the volunteer recognition committee.
