Main Street Square reopens its water fountains to the public
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Main Street Square’s water fountains have finally opened and just in time for the summer heat.
Parents and kids alike have been anticipating being able to splash around and get out of the house.
Dan Senftner, President of Destination Rapid City, said “And of course all of the swimming pools are closed in the city, and you know what, these kids are looking for something to do. And these parents are also. So we’re real excited to give them that avenue here at main street square for the kids to play in the fountains as you can see already, for things that are happening. We’re keeping a close eye on things, we’re making sure we follow all the guidelines. You know what, it’s just time that somebody had some fun.”
Precautions are still being taken to keep visitors safe.
Social distancing is still recommended, and as an added safety measure, the water has also been treated with a UV disinfectant and chlorine.
Samples have also been sent to the South Dakota Department of Health.
The fountains aren’t all that Main Street Square has planned either. Movies Under the Stars will resume July 6.
