Mayor Allender makes proclamation for ADA anniversary

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Wednesday marks the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Mayor Steve Allender recognized the historic day Wednesday afternoon at a press conference.
The mayor made a proclamation and took a moment to highlight work force diversity and equality in Rapid City.
Catherine Greseth, a regional ADA ambassador, shared the importance ADA friendly environments.” We’ve come a long way on the last six years. Making accommodation and upgrades throughout the city to help people with disabilities. But what we all need to realize is, just with age comes disabilities, so at some point all those things we’re going to be able to use,” she says.
She also shares that many of the things we use today were pioneered because of people with disabilities, including texting to help people that are deaf and Siri for assisting people that are blind.
