RCFD honors the firefighters lost on 9/11 year-round

RAPID CITY, S.D. — While we are separated 1,700 miles from where the 9/11 attacks happened, the Rapid City Fire Department (RCFD) remembers the New York City first responders daily, when they roll out their trucks.
Two of RCFD’s trucks have the number 343 on them, which is the number of firefighters who died saving lives on 9/11.
“343 firefighters lost their lives, but there were estimates of 20,000 people saved through the efforts of firefighters that day. So putting 343 on our trucks is an acknowledgment that we will never forget and we haven’t forgotten,” says Lt. Jim Bussell, with RCFD.
RCFD also has helmets with the number on them and several other 9/11 memorial items, including window stickers, patches, and photos.
