The former STAR Academy goes up for auction this week
CUSTER, S.D. – The land and buildings formerly known as the STAR Academy, will be up for auction on Wednesday.
Across 173 acres of land lies the small community in Custer, made up of buildings that once served as a facility for juveniles and a handful of homes.
Last year that the land was repossessed by the state after the last owner failed to pay for the property.
After being repossessed by the state, the location has gone through several auction but has yet to be purchased. The state is asking for $2 million with 10% due at the auction, and the remaining due on closing day.
“We’ve certainly had a lot of interest in the facility all summer but the doesn’t necessarily mean that those folks are going to bid or that they’ve been able to acquire the $2 million necessary to buy the campus,” says Ryan Brunner, the School and Public Lands Commissioner.
The auction will take place at the Custer County Courthouse on Wednesday and interested
